- Know your route: Make a plan to achieve the finish you want and then work to achieve it.
- Be aware of the headwind: Things will creep in to distract you or knock you off task. Be aware of where they are coming from and avoid them.
- Execute your plan. Bridging the gap always wastes energy you may need for the future. If you keep to the plan you have outlined you will achieve the success you desire.
It usually happens to me when I am on a hill. A slight incline not much to worry about. I am on the wheel of the rider in front of me and I am in the draft. Just when I think things are going fine and I can relax a little, I realize the incline has increased and I have lost the draft. The push to get back in the draft brings the painful reality that the lack of focus on my part has brought on extra work for me.
But it is not only on the bike that we lose our focus. It happens in our work life as well. When get hit with the reality that we have spent too much time doing things that did not get us to our mission critical goals we have to bridge the gap. We have to push to get us to where we need to be.
